About my approach to treatment:
I understand that therapy can be a daunting undertaking and have the utmost respect for those who take that first
step to begin the process of change and enlightenment by walking into my office. I am warm, friendly, genuine, and
direct. I strive to create an environment where you feel safe, comfortable, and supported yet leave each session
feeling motivated to make changes in your life. My therapeutic approach is compromised of evidence based
treatments that have been proven through research to alleviate distress and improve quality of life. I work primarily
from a cognitive-behavioral orientation and take an active, solution-focused approach to therapy. I generally work
from a short-term model of care which means I make an effort to help you feel relief from your emotional pain in as
few sessions as possible. Therapy does not have to be a life-long undertaking. I find that the majority of my clients
feel happy and healthy enough to terminate therapy or start attending with less frequency after 8-12 sessions.
However, I am very attuned to the needs of my clients and will work at a pace that is comfortable for you.

I ask for and truly appreciate honest and frequent feedback from my clients regarding what they are finding helpful
and what they would prefer done differently to ensure that I am providing the best experience possible. This helps
me provide a highly personalized approach tailored to your individual needs so that you may attain the personal
growth you are striving for.

What will therapy with me be like?
Within our first few meetings, we will work together to formulate goals and come up with a plan for how you can
achieve the changes you would like to make. One way I help my clients achieve their goals is through real-world
practice. I often assign “homework” for my clients to complete in between sessions in order to encourage them to put
into practice the new skills and theories we discuss in session. I believe you need to make changes in the way you
think, behave, and interact with others on a daily basis to see any significant and lasting progress in therapy. Our
sessions together will lead to your gaining new skills, perspective, and insight. Your “homework assignments” will
help guide you in applying those new skills and perspective to your everyday routine to break old, ineffective habits
and implement real change in your life. I am a firm believer that you get what you put into therapy and I want to make
sure that you get the most benefit possible out of the time and money that you are investing in this process. Some
examples of homework assignments include practicing a new way of communicating with your partner during conflict,
doing something nice and unexpected for your partner during the week, practicing deep breathing or other
relaxation techniques, keeping a record of your thoughts, and even self-hypnosis. Homework assignments are never
graded and rarely take more than an hour per week. They are tailored to your specific needs and assigned as a
way to help you apply what we talk about in session to the real world. Discussing difficulties you had completing an
assignment or insight you gained from completing it provides you with an opportunity to troubleshoot with an
experienced professional and increase your personal growth.
